This is a (very last minute) entry for the Songsmith's Anonymous 'Write a Valentine's song' challenge

I can be a romantic old thing at times, but when it happens it's not going to be because market forces dictate that I should do so by means of buying a crap card with a teddy on it just because it's February - I think 'doing it off your own back when it feels right' is the way to go personally.
With that in mind, I thought I'd write a murder song. I love a bit of Nick Cave and thought that writing a song where the protagonist is 'really not a very nice man' would be fun. So here it is.
The tech bit -
Recorded and mixed in Reaper.
Guitar is a Burny Les Paul. Middle position, but it's a coil tapped neck with the humbucker bridge. This is fed straight into my Matamp C7 with everything set at noon. I put this into the PC and used a pair of Redwirez cabinets (a Hiwatt with Fanes and a Vox AC30 cab). A touch of reverb from NI Vintage Reverb and that's it - no other eq / compression / other jiggery pokery was done.
Vox were through a Rode NT1 into a Focusrite Saffire 24DSP. NI L2a compressor and a touch of EQ helped, but it needed more work to get it dead right - you can hear some compressor artefact hitting a few times. I had a deadline and a Wolf at the door :)
Touch of Reflektor reverb on the vox, then another NI compressor on the master.
