me and my tarnished heart went walking on a cold February day
the barren trees didn't seem romantic with their dark gray branches
a few sparrows chanced the elements, but they weren't singing
thoughts of spring flowers and chocolates were oh so far away

it wasn't always like this, when kiss me was painted on your lips
now pain is my sole embrace, that old refrain, love in vain
echoes through this day of valentines' long gone by, a harsh wind
blows, and I bow my head, as my shadow in sorrow cries again

tears turn to ice before they hit the ground, and I'm so tired
of self pity, and I'm thinking in some obscure way,
even sadness is pretty, surely I'm not the first to have loved and lost
and if there's a silver lining, I do a repeat performance,
regardless of the cost....
