Her Ma met a man
At the dancin
Down at the Barrowlands
He was handsome
His smell was clean and sweet
And his hands
They were soft and dry

His hair was combed and neat
You could see your face
In the shoes upon his feet
His shirts were whiter
Than a brand new cotton sheet
And her Ma had said
His suits were made by hand

But her Da was the best
Even though his hair
Was always a mess
He never shaved
And he could'nae care less
If his socks were odd
And shirts were less than white

Ever since he left
She's had a stream of Uncles
That loved her Ma the best
They always left her
In a babbling greetin mess
And sometimes
Even with a blackened eye

Her Da left on the Monday
Her Ma'd a new man by the Sunday
On her airm

She said
Somebody's got to love me
I just need someone to love me
I'm daen nae hairm

But it broke the wee wain's heart
To hear her Ma being called a tart
In the school playground
It wis'nae long before he left
Mr Perfect and her Ma the mess
Back on the merry go round
The merry go round

She walked the city streets
Lookin for her Da
In every pub that she'd
Been stood ootside
With crisps and juice
Whilst inside he
Drank until the money
It ran dry

She found him in a mess
Sat on a pavement
Wi his troosers hangin
Off his arse
Tryin tae roll a fag
Wi his hat between his legs
Catching pennies
Fae passer's by

He said
"An Angels come to save me
Sent by the Virgin Mary
Tae save ma life"

She said
"Da I've come to take ye
Back hame tae Ma
She's lost without ye
And ye need yer wife"

So they clambered up the stairs
Crashed through the door
Into her Mother's airms
There they laughed and cried

"I'd rip ma heart oot
Fae neath this vest
Ye know I love ye
Much mair than the rest
If you'd just realise
If you'd just realise"

The wee wains heart did fly
As a tear ran doon her Mother's eye
When she held his hands
And said "Danny I've alway's loved you
There's many a man that's tried to love me
Only done me hairm
Only done me hairm"

And so the story goes
Time it healed them
And the wee wain's spirit rose
To see the love between them
Grow and grow and grow
And grow and grow and grow and grow and grow
